Chateau Sociando-Mallet 2009

, , , , ,

Château Sociando-Mallet produces full-bodied wines with a deep, dark colour. Their complex bouquet is usually dominated by black fruit aromas with a touch of minerality and well-integrated, elegant oak. Often somewhat “virile” when young, the wines gain in balance and complexity with age. They are fresh, straightforward, and have a wonderful length.

Château Sociando-Mallet has always been a wine with great ageing potential. A wine to be enjoyed even after 30 years in great vintages.

Shows precision here, with floral, blueberry and mineral aromas that follow through to a full body and firm and racy tannins. Very polished texture to this wine. Goes on for minutes on the palate. Back in form ! Try after 2017.

Fine nose of concentrated, ripe red and black fruit, very mineral ; lovely balance, an elegant, moderately concentrated middleweight, with fine tannin and no asperity; fresh and with a jucily ripe raspberry and blackcurrant fruit, not that concentrated, but classy and refined, long and even, gently aromatic and complex, with a lovely Médoc gravel element and excellent length. A beautiful, flowing, refreshing, complete claret, with plenty to offer; an easy, refined beverage, not massive, but effortless and very good. A very natural feel to this, should be most gratifying. 2017-30.

A return to the remarkable quality of the 2005 and 1996, both of which are top quality wines for this estate. The deeply-rimmed, saturated purple colored Sociando displays a fabulous aromatic profile of blueberry, black cherry liqueur, crème de cassis, wet stone, flower, and graphite dust. Broad and potent flavours are joined by a lengthy richness consisting of crème de cassis and blueberry/black cherry fruit in addition to a large-scaled presence on the palate. It is another full-bodied, dense, muscular offering in this noteworthy vintage. This is complex Haut-Médoc with oodles of lingering nuances! Readers take note, this brand typically sells for good value. Maturity period : 2016 – 2034.
